West Chester Baseball Climbs to No. 8 in ABCA Coaches Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. – West Chester University's baseball team climbed to No. 8 in the country in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Coaches Poll that was revealed Tuesday morning.

The Golden Rams (39-7) are coming off a four-game sweep over previously No. 7 Millersville last weekend. The weekend before that, West Chester took three out of four from then-No. 10 East Stroudsburg.

It marked the second big jump in the standings for the purple & gold. West Chester debuted in the ABCA coaches poll three weeks ago at a tie for 30th. Two weeks back, they climbed two notches to No. 28. Last week, they jumped 11 notches to No. 17. This week was a nine-spot leap into Division II's Top 10 landing at No. 8.

The No. 8 ranking is the first time that West Chester has cracked the Top 10 in the ABCA Coaches Poll since March 13 of last year. It is the highest ranking since the week prior to that when the Golden Rams were sixth in the country.

The PSAC Tournament opens up tomorrow with West Chester taking on Mercyhurst at 4:3 p.m. at Jack Critchfield Park on the campus of Slippery Rock University.
