PISCATAWAY, N.J.- Sarah Eskew (Pittsburgh, Pa.) placed second in the All-Around with a score of 38.500, thanks in part to a 9.7 on the floor to lead the West Chester University women's gymnastics team in its season opener at Rutgers on Saturday afternoon. As a team, West Chester opened its season with a team score of 189.200 to finish fourth against the nationally-ranked Scarlet Knights (194.450), Towson Tigers (193.950), and Penn Quakers (194.325).
Lily McFarland (Baltimore, Md.) and
Natalie Marshall (Bolton, Ma.) led West Chester on beam with scores of 9.700 to finish in a tie for 13th, while
EmmaGrace Kelly (Bradenton, Fl.) made her collegiate debut in this event with a score of 9.075. Eskew also started her afternoon with a score of 9.600 in this event to finish in a tie for 15th.
On the floor exercise,
Caroline Cascadden (Ashburn, Va.) led the way with a 9.775, which was good enough for a tie for 10th, while
Catherine Keener (Holly Springs, N.C.) and
Rylee Harada (Runnemede, N.J.) made their Golden Ram lineup debuts with scores of 9.600 and 9.725, respectively. Kelly also performed well in this event, registering a 9.750 as the second-highest-scoring Golden Ram, finishing 14th for another top-15 finish. Eskew continued her big day with a score of 9.700 on her floor exercise routine.
Eskew led West Chester on vault, finishing with a score of 9.600, while
Corrine Gruber (Barto, Pa.) and
Lily McFarland (Baltimore, Md.) registered scores of 9.500, respectively. Eskew's 9.600 effort led to her finishing in a tie for 11th.
On bars, West Chester was led by a pair of 9.600 efforts by Eskew and
Melina Ringas (Glen Allen, Va.), respectively, as the two finished in a tie for 14th.
