Last Time Out
West Chester was back in action on Friday night in Texas in a tri-meet against perennial powers Texas Woman’s and Southeast Missouri State. Led by a second-place finish on beam by EmmaGrace Kelly (Bradenton, Fl.), West Chester finished third with a team score of 191.775. This included a pair of 47.900 scores on vault and bars along with a 47.925 on beam and a 48.050 on the floor exercise. Kelly led West Chester on both the beam with a 9.750 and floor with a 9.700 to finish ninth in this event as well. Jordan Coleman (Bowie, Md.) led West Chester on bars with a new team season-high score of 9.725, which led to her finishing in a tie for sixth. Sarah Eskew (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led West Chester on vault with a personal and team season-best score of her own of 9.725 to finish in a tie for 11th.
Returning North
Monday afternoon is West Chester’s second meet of the weekend down South as the team first ventured to TWU on Friday and will conclude its stay in Louisiana on Monday afternoon before returning to Pennsylvania early on Tuesday morning.
Road Warriors
Monday afternoon’s meet is the third of four straight away from home to open the season for West Chester as the team will head to Connecticut next Saturday for a quad meet at Bridgeport. West Chester will not open its home slate until February 1 against SUNY-Brockport and SUNY-Cortland in the first of two straight at home to begin the month.
Making a Name for Itself Among the Giants
West Chester University, which competes at the NCAA Division II level in all other school sports, has held its own against the mostly Division I institutions that make up the Gymnastics East Conference. The Golden Rams are a combined 17-3 in head-to-head competition against GEC schools in the regular season, and West Chester has taken third place in two of the first three GEC Championships (2022, 2023).
Scouting the Opposition
Scouting Centenary (0-1)
West Chester will face Centenary for the first time this season on Monday afternoon and it will also be the first of two meetings in a week for the Golden Rams and Ladies. Since 2014, West Chester is a perfect 4-0 vs Centenary including a March 4 victory over the Ladies by a 194.375-188.075 final. Centenary will be in action for just the second time this season on Monday afternoon after opening its campaign at TWU on January 12 with a team score of 180.375. Sophie Schmitz competed in the all-around for Centenary in the season opener and posted a score of 37.550, including a eighth-place finish on the bars with a 9.600 and a sixth-place finish on beam with a 9.475. Peyton Buford led the way on vault with a 9.450 to finish seventh in her collegiate debut, while Claire Flores led the team on the floor exercise with a 9.225 to finish eighth.
Scouting SEMO (2-6)
West Chester will face off against SEMO for the second time this weekend on Monday afternoon after also competing alongside the Redhawks in Texas on Friday night. SEMO turned in a season-high score of 193.325 on Friday night to finish second, led by junior Taylor Ingle, who won the all-around with a score of 38.500. Ingle tied for first on vault (9.850) and won the floor (9.875) while also tying for 11th on the bars (9.675) and 18th on beam (9.100). Lindsay Ockler won the bars with a 9.800, which served as a new season-best while Leah Parton finished second on the beam with a 9.725.
