WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Competing for the second time since Wednesday, the West Chester University men's swimming and diving team was back in the pool on Sunday for its Senior Day meet vs New York University. West Chester battled throughout the afternoon and got a number of strong swims, including a handful of event victories, but fell to the Violets by a 131-112 final.
Prior to Saturday's meet, West Chester honored its senior class, which included Diver
Tyler Czeiner (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone), Max Bachman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Dalton Fink (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Ben Desclous (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown), AJ McClurkin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), Joel Dunnigan
(York, Pa./Dallastown), Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown), and Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus).
West Chester started its day with a victory in the 200 medley relay in one minute and 32.53 seconds.
Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) registered the first individual event victory of the morning with a winning swim in the 1,000 free as he touched the wall in 9:33.23.
Danny Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) took second in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.89.
Metzger and Fink took second and third in the 50 free in times of 20.95 and 21.37 seconds, respectively. Desclous took fourth in the 200 IM in 1:55.15.
Joel Dunnigan was fourth in the 100 fly in 51.11 seconds, while
Brey Wright (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Central) finished fifth in 51.56 seconds.
Metzger second in the 100 free in 46.04 seconds. Fink led West Chester in the 100 back with a time of 51.19 seconds.
Dunigan and Demesy went 1,2 in the 500 free in times of 4:35.39 and 4:38.48, respectively.
Kai Hang (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.42 seconds.
West Chester also triumphed in the 400 free relay in 3:03.73.
Czeiner earned a Senior Day victory on the one-meter board with a score of 262.50, while
Boden Burkhart (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) and
Michael Finlaw (Warrington, Pa./C.B. South) were second and third with scores of 242.25 and 224.55, respectively. Burkhart claimed a victory of his own on the three-meter board with a score of 297.67, while Czeiner took third with a 253.13
West Chester will not be back in swimming action until mid-February when the PSAC Championships begin on February 17, but it is scheduled dive next Saturday at La Salle.
