Women's Tennis Competes at ITA Atlantic Regional Championships

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The West Chester University women's tennis team was back in action on Thursday afternoon for the opening day of the ITA Atlantic Regional Tennis Championships at Bloomsburg University.

In singles play, Delaney Tingle (Charlotte, N.C./Palm Desert High) fell to her foe from Millersville, Lauren Hayes, by a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) final. Ashleigh Grooms (Newport, Ky./The Summit Country Day School) saw her day, which had started with a doubles victory alongside Sohana Thompson (Fairfield, Ohio/The Seven Hills School), come to a close as she was forced to retire due to injury against Dominique Van Vuuren of West Virginia Wesleyan College. Van Vuuren had a 1-0 lead in the match at the time after taking the first set by a 6-2 final.

In doubles action, Tingle and Alexandra Cave (Greenmeadows Napier, New Zealand/Woodford House) fell to the Slippery Rock duo of Alissia Aleksandra Kivi and Nicole Kempton by an 8-2 final, while Grooms and Thompson won their opening-round match by an 8-5 final over the duo of Marioa Martirosyan and Courtney Curnutte from West Liberty to advance into the Round of 16.

Grooms and Thompson were expected to face the duo of Asel Calbay and Lea Von Kozierowski from Indiana (Pa.) in the Round of 16 on Friday morning, but were forced to withdraw.
