West Chester Preparation Complete for Saturday’s NCAA Tournament Opener

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA
– West Chester University heads to East Stroudsburg for its quarterfinal matchup against the Warriors in the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament at Whitenight Field Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m.
 
Tickets to Saturday's field hockey quarterfinal matchup are $10 for general admission. Students with school ID, senior citizens 65+, veterans and first responders are all $5 per person. Children under the age of two are admitted free.
 
This is a CASH ONLY event. No pass list, or complimentary tickets are available. Tickets will be available for purchase on site at the gate.
 
West Chester (13-6) defeated East Stroudsburg (16-3) 2-1 in overtime at Vonnie Gros Field in the team's regular-season encounter. Saturday's tilt will be the second time that these two conference rivals have met this season. Both reached the semifinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) postseason tournament, which concluded last weekend.
 
West Chester is making its 10th appearance in the NCAAs since it re-classified to Division II in 2011. The Golden Rams have won the tournament three times (2011, 2012, 2019) and reached the national championship game four times, including its only loss in the title game in 2021. Overall, West Chester is 12-6 in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
 
Defending national champion Saint Anselm (16-5) at Shippensburg (17-3), Bentley (13-8) at Newberry (19-0), and Assumption (13-6) at Kutztown (19-1) rounds out the first round of the national tournament. All four quarterfinal round games will be played on Saturday.
 
In the regular season, the Golden Rams were 4-4 against the teams that qualified for NCAA Tournament. West Chester played all five of the other tournament teams in the regular season with wins over Assumption, Bentley, East Stroudsburg and Saint Anselm, and losses to Kutztown, Newberry and Shippensburg twice.
 
The winner of Saturday's quarterfinals will advance to the NCAA national semifinals and finals, which will be played at Steph Pettit Stadium on the campus of Bloomsburg University, Nov. 21 and 23.
