BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (19-8, 7-6) was back in action on Friday night at Bloomsburg, falling to the Huskies by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-19) final to start the last weekend of the regular season.
West Chester battled throughout the evening but failed to hit north of .225 in any set as the Golden Rams hit .206 (12-5-34) in the first set, .162 (11-5-37) in the second, and -.138 (7-11-29) in the third set as the Huskies pulled the upset over the visiting Golden Rams by a 3-0 final.
Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) led West Chester in kills with nine, while
Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) led West Chester in digs (13), assists (24), and aces (two), along with three blocks.
Julia Kwitchoff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) led the team in blocks with five.
Bloomsburg jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first set before West Chester battled back into the match and cut the deficit to 22-18 after a combo block by Haines and
CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) capped off a 3-0 Golden Ram run. Bloomsburg and West Chester traded points down the stretch of the first set as Bloomsburg won the set 25-21 to take the 1-0 lead in the match.
Bloomsburg jumped out to an early 10-3 lead in the second set before West Chester went on an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 12-11. Haines tied the set at 16-16 with a kill before an
Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) kill gave West Chester a 19-18 lead late in the set. West Chester got out to a 20-18 lead before Bloomsburg closed the set on a 7-3 run to capture the set by a 25-23 final.
West Chester and Bloomsburg traded points to open the third set as West Chester trailed by just one (11-10) at the midway point of the set. Bloomsburg grabbed control of the set with a 6-0 run to take a 17-10 lead on the way to a 25-19 third-set victory.
Marlee Johnson led Bloomsburg in kills with 14, while Allison Saalfrank led the team in digs with 13, along with two aces. Lydia Worthing led the team in blocks with five, while Jessica Rimbo led the team in assists with 19.
