Men's Basketball to Visit Goldey-Beacom on Friday Afternoon

WILMINGTON, Del.- Following a 89-68 victory in its home opener on Wednesday evening over Caldwell, the West Chester University men's basketball team (2-1) will head back out on the road for on Friday afternoon for its penultimate road game of the 2025 half of its schedule as the Golden Rams visit Goldey Beacom (3-0) on Friday at 3 p.m.

West Chester won its 11th home opener in the last 12 seasons on Wednesday night over Caldwell by an 89-68 final. West Chester shook off a slow start, which saw the Golden Rams trail 11-4 just under four minutes before a 13-0 run erased the deficit and gave West Chester a lead it would never relinquish. Anthony McCall (Philadelphia, Pa./ANC) led four Golden Rams in double figures with 17 points, scoring 12 of his 17 in the second half on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, including a three-pointer as West Chester led by as many as 27 late in the home opening victory.

West Chester heads into Friday afternoon averaging 81.7 points per game while holding its opponents to 74.7 points per game. The Golden Rams are shooting 44.2 % from the field and 33.3 % from beyond the arc after a season-best eight makes and 42.1 % shooting from three-point territory last night. The Golden Rams also hold a 42.3-33.0 (+9.3) lead in rebounding and a +2.3 (19.3-17.0) lead in the turnover battle as the end of the second week of the season draws near.

Gabe Moss (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) and Ruben Rodriguez Jr. (Reading, Pa./Reading) remain first and second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.3 and 13.0 points per game, respectively. Moss and Rodriguez Jr. both finished in double figures last night with 13 and 15 points, respectively. McCall also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.0 rebounds per game, while Dylan Blair (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) leads the team in assists, averaging 4.7 per game.

Friday is West Chester's final road game until 12/16 at Jefferson. West Chester will play each of its next three at home after this against Immaculata (11/26), Lincoln (12/2), and Pitt-Johnstown (12/6).

West Chester leads the all-time series 9-1. The two squads last met in December 2023 in West Chester, and the Golden Rams prevailed by an 89-73 final. West Chester's lone loss to Goldey-Beacom came in Wilmington, where the Lightning won a matchup in December 2007 by a 75-64 final in legendary head coach Dick DeLaney's final year.

As a team, the Lightning enter the matchup averaging 88.7 points per game on 41.4 % shooting from the field and 34.7 % from beyond the arc, while limiting opponents to 66.0 points per game on 41.4 % shooting from the field but just 13.2 % from deep. Goldey-Beacom also holds a 43.3-37.3 lead in rebounding and an impressive 22.0-12.3 lead in turnovers, averaging 27.7 points per game off turnovers to open the season.

Tre Powell leads the team in scoring, averaging 20.0 points per game, while Emarquis Jones is second, averaging 13.7 points per game. Jones leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.3 rebounds per game, while Elisha Brown and Julian Williams are tied for second, averaging 6.3 rebounds per game. Powell leads the team in assists, averaging 5.0 per game, while Anthony Akande is second, averaging 3.0 per game. Akande also leads the team in steals, averaging 3.0 per game, while Powell is second, averaging 2.3 per game.
