Last Time Out
West Chester was back in action at home against Ursinus last weekend, topping the visiting Bears by a 190.775-189.000 final for its second home triumph in as many weeks. Rylee Harada (Runnemede, N.J.) led West Chester on vault with a third-place finish and a 9.575, while Jordan Coleman (Bowie, Md.) won the bars yet again with a 9.725. Harada took fourth in this event with a 9.600, which served as a career-high, while Karah Vargo (Fort Myers, Fl.) hit a new career-high of her own with a 9.350. On beam, Natalie Marshall (Bolton, Ma.) and Caroline Cascadden (Ashburn, Va.) led West Chester with a 9.8 and 9.7 to take second and third, respectively. Cat Keener (Holly Springs, N.C.) and Lily McFarland (Baltimore, Md.) tied for first on the floor with a pair of 9.825’s, which served as a new career-high for Keener, while EmmaGrace Kelly (Bradenton, Fl.) was third with a 9.800.
We Are Honored
West Chester earned Gymnastics East Conference weekly awards in two of the last three weeks. McFarlandwas the first Golden Ram honored with Specialist of the Week honors at the end of January before Cascadden and Kellycaptured Specialist and Newcomer of the Week honors in February after the Golden Rams home opener vs SUNY-Brockport and SUNY-Cortland on February 1.
On the Road Again
West Chester heads back out on the road for another month after opening its home slate with back-to-back home meets to begin February. West Chester will visit William & Mary this weekend, and Ursinus next weekend before a nearly two-week layoff ahead of its next home meet against Alaska-Anchorage on Friday, March 7.
Making a Name Among the Giants
West Chester University, which competes at the NCAA Division II level in all other school sports, has held its own against the mostly Division I institutions that make up the Gymnastics East Conference. The Golden Rams are a combined 18-4 in head-to-head competition against GEC schools in the regular season, and West Chester has taken third place in two of the first three GEC Championships (2022, 2023).
Scouting William & Mary
William and Mary (2-9) returns home for the first time since a Monday night clash with Temple in late January for what will be both Senior Day and the annual Women’s Empowerment Meet for the Tribe. Following Sunday’s clash with the Golden Rams, which will be the first of two straight weekend meetings between the two GEC foes, the Tribe will have only one home meet left, a March 8 matchup against Penn in their second-to-last meet of the regular season.
Last weekend, William & Mary traveled to Towson for the second time in as many weeks to matchup with the Tigers, Bowling Green, and Illinois State. William & Mary placed fourth in the quad meet with a 190.650 after scoring a season-best 192.850 in a five-team meet at Towson the week prior. Madeline Frazier led W&M on the beam with a season-high tying 9.825 to finish sixth, while Michelle Ngo tied for ninth with a season-best 9.775. Ngo also led the Tribe on the floor with a 9.700. On bars, Caroline Blatchford and Sarah Wozniak led the way with a pair of top-10 finishes, scoring a 9.775 and 9.725 to take seventh and 10th, respectively. Samantha Burd led W&M on vault with a 9.500.
