Women's Lacrosse Climbs to Fourth in IWLCA and USA Lacrosse Magazine Division II Poll

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-
The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and USA Lacrosse Magazine released theirlatest Division II women's lacrosse pols on Monday morning and after a dominant 21-4 victory over Roberts Wesleyan to open the season, the West Chester University women's lacrosse team (1-0) has moved up to fourth in the national rankings.

In the IWLCA poll, Tampa and Pace retained the top two spots in the poll, while Florida Southern moved from fourth to third with the Golden Rams following suit as they slid into fourth with Maryville jumping from seventh into fifth. Adelphi, who opened the year third, slipped down to sixth, followed by Indianapolis, East Stroudsburg, Saint Leo, and Lynn to round out the top-10.

West Chester is one of four PSAC teams in the top-25 as ESU in eighth, Kutztown is 15th and Seton Hill is 18th.

In the USA Lacrosse Magazine poll, Tampa and Florida Southern held the top two spots followed by Pace, West Chester, and Grand Valley State to round out the top five. Maryville was sixth followed by East Stroudsburg, Embry-Riddle, Lynn, and Saint Leo. 

West Chester is one of four PSAC teams in the top-20 as ESU in seventh, Kutztown is 14th and Seton Hill is 15th.

The Golden Rams opened the season on Saturday with a 17-goal (21-4) victory over Roberts Wesleyan, thanks in part to an 11-0 run, which erased an early two-goal deficit. Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) led West Chester in scoring in the victory with six goals and two assists for eight points as Hannah Cornelius (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) earned her first career victory between the pipes.

West Chester will put its ranking to the test twice this weekend as the Golden Rams welcome an American International (AIC) squad led by alum Jess Harrison to Vonnie Gros Field on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. before facing No. 17 Bentley on Sunday at 1 p.m.
