Women's Tennis to Begin Spring Slate in Florida with Four Matches in Five Days

ORLANDO, Fl.- The West Chester University women’s tennis team is preparing to open the spring portion of its 2024-25 season this weekend in sunny Orlando, Florida, with four matches in five days beginning with a Sunday morning match at Eckerd beginning at 11 a.m.

3/9 at Eckerd 11 a.m.

3/10 vs Winona State

3/12 vs Washington College (Md.)

3/13 vs Niagara 

Last Time We Saw Them

West Chester wrapped up its fall season with a 7-0 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas on October 8th to fall to 0-3 on the young season. West Chester battled throughout the afternoon and was close in every doubles match, while Delaney Tingle (Charlotte, N.C./Palm Desert High) gave her first singles foe all she could handle, but it was not enough to avoid the setback.  

Heading South

West Chester ventures to Florida as part of its Spring Break trip once again in 2025 and will play four matches in five days as the team will face Eckerd and Winona State on Monday, Division III Washington College (Md.) on Wednesday, and Division I foe Niagara on Thursday to conclude its visit to Florida. 

Jumping into It

When West Chester returns north after its matchup against Division I foe Niagara on Thursday, the Golden Rams will play a home match against Bryn Mawr on Thursday the 20th before jumping into PSAC play at home against Millersville on Saturday, March 22, in the middle of four straight home matches. 

Scouting the Opposition

Eckerd (3-4)

Eckerd heads into the weekend at 3-4 on the year after falling to Walsh (4-3) and Division I foe Loyola (Md.) (5-2) earlier this week. The Tritons will look to halt this skid on Saturday as Edinboro visits before the Golden Rams challenge the Tritons on Sunday morning on what will also be Senior Day. Olivia Lindestaf is 6-1 in first singles play this season, while Kylie Misdorp is 4-2 from the second singles spot. Misdorp and Fiona Orza are 4-3 in first doubles action as well. 

Winona State (3-3)

Winona State embarks on Spring break with a record of 3-3 on the year and will put this mark to the test on Sunday morning vs Slippery Rock before facing West Chester on Monday in the second of three straight vs PSAC competition (Seton Hill on Wednesday). The Warriors are 1-2 to open 2025, earning a 4-3 victory over St. Cloud State on February 15 before falling to U Mary and MSU-Moorehard by 4-3 finals on Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd. Clara Thoemke is 2-0 in singles play, including a 2-0 mark in third singles and a 1-0 record in fourth singles, while also pairing with Ally Burger to lead in doubles at 2-0 in third doubles action. 

Washington College (2-0)

Washington College heads into next week at 2-0 on the year after posting wins over Goucher and Drew earlier in February to open the season. Sofia Sperandei is a team-best 4-2 in singles play, including a 3-2 mark in Tournament play and a 1-0 record in second singles. Gaby Couts and Carrie Lord lead Washington College in doubles at 3-0 on the year, including a 1-0 mark in second doubles. 

Niagara (2-9)

Niagara heads into the weekend at 2-9 on the year with a road match at Merrimack on the calendar for today, along with matchups vs Creighton and North Carolina Central on the books for early next week in Florida. Niagara is just 1-7 so far this spring; its lone victory came vs Oakland on February 14 by a 4-3 final. Elena Mayet is 5-13 in first singles action, while Envira Favaron is a team-best 10-7, with eight of her 10 wins coming in sixth singles. Favaron and Jaida Borg are 4-3 in third doubles, while Elena Mayet and Larisa Kotok are 4-6  in doubles, including a 3-3 mark at first doubles.

West Chester will start its stay in Florida on Sunday morning at Eckerd before concluding its trip with its Thursday afternoon matchup vs Niagara. The Golden Rams will open play up north against Bryn Mawr on March 20 before opening PSAC play vs Millersville on March 22.
