Hummel Breaks Program Record as Women's Track and Field Impresses in Last Chance Meet

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-
Annika Hummel broke her own program record and won the pole vault to lead the West Chester University women's track and field program in the WCU Last Chance Meet on Friday afternoon. West Chester turned in a host of excellent performances and a multitude of event victories in the last chance meet on Friday, competing alongside local PSAC foes Millersville, Kutztown, East Stroudsburg, and Shippensburg in a final tuneup ahead of the PSAC Championships at Slippery Rock next weekend.

Lily Palacio Lewis and Gabby Curtis went 1,2 in the 100 meters in times of 12.07 and 12.59 seconds, while Ava Mills was sixth in 12.95 seconds.

Katja Larsen finished first in the 200 in 25.49 seconds while Curtis and Genveive McDonald were fifth and sixth in times of 26.56 and 26.68, respectively. Mills finished eighth in 27.06 seconds.

In the 400, McDonald took third in 1:00.21 while Rebekah Burnshaw was fourth in 1:00.28. Curtis took sixth in 1:02.68.

Rebecca Kramer led West Chester in the 800 with a fourth-place finish in 2:29.65 while Jenell Moebius was seventh in 2:36.65. Grace O'Brien took ninth in the 800 in 2:39.66.

O'Brien also led West Chester in the 1500 with an eighth-place finish in 5:26.43.

Morgan Pera won the 100 hurdles in 14.98 seconds while Jade Williams took fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.58. Kamryn Fontaine picked up a top-10 finish of her own in the 400 hurdles, finishing seventh in 1:11.61.

West Chester also took first in the 4x100 relay, finishing in 48.53 seconds.

Jade Salmon finished second in the high jump with a mark of 4 feet 11 inches (1.50 meters).

 Annika Hummel broke her own program record and won the pole vault with a mark of 12-5 ½  (3.80m) while Emily Donegan and Kaylie Groff took third and fourth with marks of 11-5 ¾ (3.50m) and 10-11 ¾ (3.35m).

Katie Pieslak won the long jump with a mark of 17-4 ½ (5.30m) while Nikolien Bezuidenhout was third with a mark of 16-3 ½ (4.97m).
 Pieslak also won the triple jump with a mark of 36-5 ¾ (11.12m) while Bezuidenhout and Ozioma Ottih were third and fourth with marks of 33-11 ½ (10.35m) and 33-4 (10.16m), respectively.

Jaclyn Borcky led West Chester in the shot put with a ninth-place finish in a mark of 33-6 ¼ (10.22m), while Zhayria Washington was third in the discus with a mark of 128-1 ¼ (39.05m).

Washington also led West Chester in the hammer with a fourth-place finish and a mark of 146-0 ¾ (44.52m) while Adrianna Bryant was sixth with a mark of 130-3 (39.70m).

In the javelin, Kayla Lockburner and Borcky both picked up top five finishes with marks of 110-8 ¾ (33.75m) and 101-7 ¼ (30.97m), respectively.

West Chester will be back in action next Thursday for the opening day of the PSAC Track and Field Championships at Slippery Rock.
