PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (9-2) was back in action on Friday night in non-league action at CACC foe Holy Family (8-4). West Chester battled throughout the night but fell to the host Tigers by a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-16) final on Friday to halt a season-best five-match winning streak.
Holy Family jumped out to an early 13-8 lead in the first set, which prompted a quick timeout by the Golden Rams. The timeout did its job in slowing the run as West Chester cut the deficit to 15-13, and after a block by
CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) and
Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion), the set was tied at 19-19. Holy Family won six of the next nine points, however, to win the set 25-22 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set, West Chester battled throughout, but an early-set run made a comeback difficult as the Tigers claimed the set by a 25-15 final to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The two teams traded points early in the third set, and West Chester held a slim 9-8 lead after a
Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) kill and led 11-10 a few points later before Holy Family went on a 10-2 run to take a 20-13 lead late in the set. Leading by seven late, Holy Family closed out the set with a 25-16 victory to win the match by a 3-0 final.
Haines led West Chester in kills with eight, while
Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) led the squad in assists with 13.
Elianna Freeman (Jersey Village, Tx./Jersey Village) led the Golden Rams in digs with nine.
Mackenzie Layton and Shelby Kinzer led Holy Family in kills with nine each, while Mia Wise provided 29 assists in the victory over the visiting Golden Rams.
