READING, Pa.- The West Chester University women's indoor track and field squad is set to return to action on Saturday in Reading for the Alvernia Winter Invitational at the Tom & Helen Flynn PLEX at Alvernia University. Field events are set to begin at 10 a.m., with track events beginning at 10:30 a.m., with the 4x800 relay, and will follow a rolling schedule. West Chester returns to action for the first time in over a month after concluding the 2025 half of its slate at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout at Ocean Breeze on December 12.
Kristina Tapia (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) led West Chester at Ocean Breeze with a second-place finish in the 3K with a PSAC Qualifying time of 10 minutes and 1.74 seconds, which served as a new PR and a PSAC Qualifying time. This led to Tapia earning PSAC Track Athlete of the Week honors as her time also went down as the fastest time for the Golden Rams since 2022 and is one of the top five fastest times in team history.
In addition to the efforts of Tapia, West Chester had an excellent day at Ocean Breeze across the board to carry strong momentum into 2026.
Katja Larsen (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) led West Chester in the 60-meter dash with a 17th-place finish in 7.91 seconds, which was the fastest time in the fourth heat.
Morgan Pera (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) led West Chester in the 60 hurdles with a 24th-place finish in 9.24 seconds.
Genevieve McDonald (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) led West Chester in the 300 with a time of 42.06 seconds to finish 30th.
Casie Nugin (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and Ember Foster (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) recorded top-10 finishes in the 600 in third and seventh in 1 minute and 38.15 seconds and 1:39.51, respectively.
Tapia led West Chester in the 3000 with a second-place finish in a PSAC Qualifying time of 10:01.74, while
Jessalyn Welsh (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) was ninth in 10:34.18.
West Chester finished 10th in the 4x200 relay in 1:45.81, while its "A" squad also finished fourth in the 4x400 in 4:04.52.
Emma Deyarmin (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) finished eighth in the shot put with a mark of 37 feet 10 ¾ inches (11.55 meters). Deyarmin also led West Chester in the weight throw with a 24th-place finish and a mark of 36-11 (11.25m).
Nikolien Bezuidenhout (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished 13th in the long jump with a mark of 16-4 ¾ (5.00m) before finishing 14th in the triple jump with a mark of 34-5 (10.49m).
