Women's Gymnastics Welcomes William & Mary to South Campus Saturday at 12:30 PM

WCU WGYM MEET NOTES - William & Mary

WEST CHESTER, PA. - West Chester University shifts and adjusts this weekend as the weather has played a significant role in the Golden Rams' plans. West Chester was originally scheduled to travel to Upstate New York and take part in Cornell University's quad meet with Bowling Green State University and SUNY Brockport. Meanwhile, William & Mary, which was supposed to open its 2026 season at home this weekend against Southern Connecticut State University saw its plans fall through when SCSU could not make it down to Virginia for the dual meet. Therefore, William & Mary, in an attempt to lift the lid on its 2026 campaign, agreed to make the trip to Southeastern PA to compete against West Chester in a dual meet inside Sturzebecker HSC. The meet will take place on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. to hopefully avoid traveling during the winter snow storm.

West Chester is coming off an impressive meet at George Washington last weekend where the Golden Rams finished second out of four schools at the quad. Penn won the meet. However, West Chester finished ahead of host GW and Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) opponent Cornell. There were plenty of personal bests achieved, and some of the younger gymnasts stepped up and continued their development.

West Chester head coach, Barb Cordova, inched closer to her mentor and former coach at WCU, Sandy Thielz, with the two wins last week. Cordova, a former gymnast and team captain for Thielz in the 1980s, needs five more wins to tie and six to become the school's all-time winningest head coach.

West Chester is 8-9 all-time against William & Mary, but 3-0 at home against the Tribe. W&M has won the last three encounters - two of them inside Kaplan Arena and the other at a neutral site. West Chester last beat William & Mary in 2024 inside Sturzebecker HSC.
