West Chester Drops Season Opener at No. 36 Towson

– Host Towson University downed visiting West Chester by a score of 195.325-187.9 in a non-league women's gymnastics meet inside SECU Arena Friday evening. It was the season opener for the Golden Rams while No. 36 Towson evened its record at 1-1 on the year.
 
West Chester witnessed two career-highs being equaled and four freshmen competing in the scoring lineup.
 
Sr., Sarah Eskew (Pittsburgh, Pa.) anchored the uneven bars for the Golden Rams in the first rotation of the meet by posting a team-best 9.75 that was good for fifth individually in that event. Melina Ringas (Glen Allen, Va.) scored a 9.65 for West Chester.
 
Sr., Karah Vargo (Fort Myers, Fla.) equaled her career high on the vault with a 9.5 effort in the third spot of the lineup. Freshman Gianna Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Eskew once again paced the Golden Rams. Smith posted a 9.6 while Eskew scored a 9.7 for the visitors and tied fifth. West Chester posted a 47.675 on the vault overall.
 
Corinne Gruber (Boyertown, Pa.) and Anna Lacey (Bethlehem, Pa.) each scored a 9.7 on the floor exercise for the Golden Rams. However, it was Jr., Lydia Stoner (Palmyra, Pa.) who tied her career high with a team-best 9.725 finished seventh overall.
 
The Golden Rams concluded the night on the balance beam. Tatum McGuinn (Glen Mills, Pa.) was the high scorer for West Chester with a 9.6 that placed her fourth overall individually. Stoner posted a 9.575 to finish right behind McGuinn in fifth place overall. EmmaGrace Kelly (Tampa, Fla.) scored a 9.425 for the visitors on the beam.
 
West Chester will be back in action next Sunday (Jan. 18) when they travel to George Washington for a quad meet with Cornell and UPenn.
