NPI Introduction
WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's soccer team ranks second in the Atlantic Region and first among Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams in the first NCAA Division II National Power Index (NPI) rankings released Monday morning.
The Golden Rams are the reigning Division II women's soccer Atlantic Region Champions following a 1-0 win over Shepherd last fall and enter this week with a record of 9-1-1 overall and a mark of 7-1-1 in league action. The Golden Rams' 7-1-1 mark is what the team is currently being rated on in the NPI system, as the team's wins over Lackawanna earlier this Fall do not count this season toward NCAA Tournament selection.
West Chester has an NPI of 59.880, the 10th-best in Division II women's soccer.
The NPI is a new ranking system adopted by Division II for the 2026-27 academic year to help evaluate teams for NCAA Tournament selection. The system uses a data-driven formula that considers a team's wins and losses, strength of schedule, and quality of opponents.
Unlike traditional rankings, the NPI evaluates teams on a national scale, allowing programs from different conferences and regions to be compared using the same system.
Today's rankings are the first of many to be released, as a new set will be unveiled next Monday before transitioning to daily rankings, Monday through Friday, beginning the week of October 26.
West Chester is one of five PSAC teams in the top, as the Golden Rams are joined by Kutztown, Slippery Rock, Shepherd, and Gannon.
The Golden Rams return to action on Wednesday afternoon against East Stroudsburg beginning at 2 p.m.
