Men's Basketball to Renew Rivalry with Millersville on Monday Night

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Riding a season-long eight-game winning streak, the West Chester University men's basketball team (16-4, 10-3) is set to return to action on Monday night against Millersville (13-7, 8-5) in the latest chapter in one of the oldest rivalries in the PSAC. Monday night's game is the third in five days for West Chester and was originally scheduled for last Tuesday night in Hollinger, but was postponed due to Winter Storm Fern, which blanketed the region last weekend.

Last Time Out

West Chester extended its winning streak to a season-best eight games on Saturday with a 91-66 victory over Mansfield, led by 15 points from Anthony McCall (Philadelphia, Pa./ANC) as one of three Golden Rams in double figures. Gabe Moss (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) and Myles Grey (Reading, Pa./Reading) scored 14 and 11 points, respectively, while Ruben Rodriguez Jr. (Reading, Pa./Reading) led the team in rebounding with eight rebounds. West Chester improved to 8-1 in games in which the Golden Rams shoot 50.0 % or better from the field, shooting an even 50.0 % (34-of-68) from the field, including a 19-for-36 (52.8 %) effort from the field in the first half. Mansfield shot 42.6 % (23-of-54) from the field, including four makes from three-point range, to the Golden Rams' six as the Golden Rams never trailed and led by as many as 32 in the final minutes before the Mounties closed the game on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 25.

Individually, Rodriguez Jr., McCall, and Moss are first, second, and third on the team in scoring, averaging 15.6, 13.6, and 12.2 points per game, respectively. Since the calendar turned to 2026, Rodriguez Jr. has scored in double figures in eight of 10 games, averaging 16.7 points per game, and has scored in double figures in 17 of 20 for the season as a whole. Rodriguez Jr. also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.1 per game, while Dylan Blair (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) is first in assists, averaging 4.5 helpers per game. Rodriguez Jr. is also first on the team in steals, averaging 2.0 steals per game.

West Chester is 8-1 when shooting north of 50 % from the field and has shot north of 55 % from the field three times in its last four games.

The Gauntlet

Monday's game will be West Chester's third game since Thursday and the first of three games this week, as the team will visit Kutztown on Wednesday and Shippensburg on Saturday. A win on Monday night would give West Chester a comfortable lead atop the PSAC East, with a three-game lead over Millersville and a two-game advantage over East Stroudsburg and Shepherd heading into the final month of the regular season.

Home Sweet Home

West Chester is 68-17 (.800 winning %) at home since 2019-20 and is 22-3 at home in the last two seasons after an unbeaten regular season at home last Winter.

Series History

One of the oldest and most played rivalries in PSAC men's basketball will write the start of its latest chapter on Monday night when Millersville visits Hollinger Field House for the first game of the season series between the Golden Rams and Marauders. West Chester dropped two of three to Millersville a year ago, including an 85-71 loss in the PSAC Quarterfinals after picking up a 75-70 win at home during the final games of the regular season en route to its first outright PSAC East title since 2006. West Chester holds a slim 107-106 lead in the series, dating back to the first meeting in 1903, which West Chester won 30-10. Monday's game is also the final game of the first PSAC East Round Robin, as both sides started their second half on Saturday against Mansfield and East Stroudsburg, respectively.

Scouting Millersville

Millersville enters play following an 87-77 road loss at ESU on Saturday afternoon. Millersville found itself down 11 (43-32) at the half and despite outscoring East Stroudsburg 45-44 in the second half, was unable to come all the way back in an eventual 87-77 loss to the homestanding Warriors. Day Waters, who ranks among the league leaders in scoring, finished with 19 points and even rebounds, while Aamir Hurst and Saraj Ali scored 17 and 13, respectively. Millersville shot just 42.5 % (31-of-73) from the field and 3-for-22 (13.6 %) from beyond the arc, while also going 12-for-20 (60.0 %) at the free throw line.

As a team, Millersville enters play on Monday averaging 82.2 points per game on 47.9 % shooting from the field and 31.1 % shooting from beyond the arc, while also shooting a stellar 76.3 % at the line along with a 34.6-34.0 lead in rebounding and a +2.6 lead in turnovers. Millersville's opponents average just 73.8 points per game on 42.8 % shooting from the field and 31.3 % shooting from beyond the arc. Waters leads the team in scoring, averaging 19.9 points per game, while Ali is second, averaging 17.2 points per game. Waters and Ali are also second and third on the team in assists, averaging 5.2 and 4.9 per game, while Dante Weise is first in assists, averaging 2.9 per game. Hurst is first on the team in steals, averaging 1.8 per game.
