THE STORYLINE
West Chester University returns to South Campus Friday for the first of two meets this weekend. The Golden Rams will host a tri-meet on Friday night against Towson University and Ursinus College before heading up I-95 to Philadelphia for a tri-meet at the University of Pennsylvania with Towson as well. It is the first, and only time, this year that the Golden Rams will compete twice in the same weekend.
West Chester went with a pretty young lineup last weekend at the Unviersity of Bridgeport and almost came away with a road win in Connecticut. Freshman Jaslyn McComeskey performed an outstanding vault to score a 9.700 in her first collegiate action. She was the anchor in that event and showed why with her vault. The Purple & Gold scored a season high as a team on the vault while head coach Barbara Cordova witnessed five career highs and three more season bests in the meet.
Cordova's freshman class has stepped up and performed well so far this winter. However, this particular weekend will be a challenge with two competitions in three days. That is something that the young gymnasts have not experienced yet. Sunday's meet with Towson and UPenn will be an opportunity for the Golden Rams to show how far they have come against the Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) preseason favorite and the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) defending regular-season champions in the gym.
West Chester has shown the ability to compete against GEC opponents Cornell, William & Mary and Bridgeport so far this year. The Golden Rams saw UPenn the first weekend of the season. But, now they will be able to see how they match up with four more meets under their belts. They will see UPenn twice more in march at the Pink Invitational and at the GEC Championship Meet at Cornell.

WEST CHESTER LAST WEEK
West Chester's gymnasts won two events in the team scoring and had three individuals walk away with a first-place finish in two events, but it was not enough to overcome host University of Bridgeport, 192.225-191.025, in a Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) meet inside the Wheeler Recreation Center on UB's campus Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (4-3, 2-2 GEC) posted five career highs and three more season highs in the dual meet, but came up just shy of the Purple Knights. Freshman Jaslyn McComeskey had a breakout performance on the vault with a 9.700. It was her first college meet and first time doing the vault.
