VIRTIUS FINAL RESULTS
BRIDGEPORT, CONN. – West Chester's gymnasts won two events in the team scoring and had three individuals walk away with a first-place finish in two events, but it was not enough to overcome host University of Bridgeport, 192.225-191.025, in a Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) meet inside the Wheeler Recreation Center on UB's campus Saturday afternoon.
Â
West Chester (4-3, 2-2 GEC) posted five career highs and three more season highs in the dual meet, but came up just shy of the Purple Knights.
Â
The Golden Rams opened the meet on the uneven bars where senior
Sarah Eskew (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the event with a 9.700.
Madelyn McCullough (Covington Twp., Pa.) placed third overall with a 9.575 on the bars as she continues to turn in consistent performances this winter. Senior
Melina Ringas (Glen Allen, Va.) tied for fifth with a 9.525. West Chester won the bars event with a team score of 47.250.
Â
On the balance beam, teammates
Lydia Stoner (Palmyra, Pa.) and
Tatum McGuinn (Glen Mills, Pa.) tied for first place with an identical score of 9.725.
Macarthy Keane (Trumbull, Conn.) hit a season high and finished fifth with a 9.575 on the beam while competing in her home state for the final time in her college career. West Chester's team score of 47.500 on the beam was enough to win that event.
Â
West Chester put up a season-high team score of 48.100 on the vault, led by freshman
Jaslyn McComeskey (Swarthmore, Pa.) who scored a career-high 9.700 to tie for third place on her first time competing on the vault in college. Eskew posted a 9.675 to finish fifth overall while senior
Karah Vargo (Fort Myers, Fla.) established a new career high with a 9.625.
Corinne Gruber (Boyertown, Pa.) scored a 9.55 which was good for one of two season highs on the afternoon for her.
Â
Gruber also posted a season-best on the floor exercise with a 9.775 that tied for fifth overall. Career highs from
Anna Lacey (Bethlehem, Pa.) and
Aly Sobczak (Pottsgrove, N.J.) supported Gruber's effort on the floor as the Golden Rams posted a 48.175. Lacey's 9.825 tied for third on the floor while Sobczak put up a 9.725 for the visitors.
Â
West Chester will return home next Friday evening for a tri-meet as both Towson University and Ursinus pay a visit to South Campus and the Sturzebecker Health Science Center at 7 p.m.
