PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C.- The West Chester University women's golf team returned to the course on Monday for the Pawley's Island Beach Bash at Litchfield Country Club in South Carolina. West Chester entered two teams in the Tournament this week and sits in a tie for fourth with an opening round of 329 and ninth with an opening round of 354 heading into the second and final round on Tuesday.
Tiffin leads on the team and individual leaderboard with a team score of 304, led by a one-under round of 71 by Louise Hedstrom, which has her in first place by five strokes after the opening round.
Fatima Rizvi (Lucknow, India/RPS Academies) carded the low round by any Golden Ram on Monday with a four-over 76, which led to her finishing the opening round in a tie for second on the individual leaderboard. Rizvi birdied the par-five fifth and par-four eighth and is the lone Golden Ram in the top-20 after the opening round.
Margaux Solis (Houston, Tx./Klein) and
Morgan Kunze (Limerick, Pa./Spring Ford) are tied for 26
th at +12 (84).
Gigi Merino (York, Pa./York Suburban) led the Golden Rams second squad in the opening round with an 85 (+13), despite a pair of birdies on the par-three fourth, and par-four ninth to sit in a tie for 30
th on the individual leaderboard.
West Chester leads the field in birdies with 10, led by a quartet of Golden Rams with two each as Rizvi, Merino, Kunze, and
Kirsten Vanderhorst (Gambrills, Md./Bishop McNamara) all recorded two birdies in the first round.
