No. 5 East Stroudsburg Defeats No. 11 West Chester in Overtime Thriller, 14-13

WEST CHESTER, PA – East Stroudsburg attacker, Paige Moreland, took a feed from Sadie Kauffman and buried the overtime game-winning goal with two minutes left in overtime to give the fifth-ranked Warriors a 14-13 victory over the 11th-ranked Golden Rams Wednesday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

West Chester (13-3, 9-2 PSAC East) dropped its third contest of the season while East Stroudsburg (17-0, 12-0) finished its regular season undefeated. It marked the first overtime game of the year for the Golden Rams and the first OT battle between these two squads since 2022. ESU held onto sole possession of first place in the Eastern Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) while West Chester secured second place with one game left in the regular season.

Freshman Marissa Herring (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett Square) scored in the final two minutes of the third quarter to break a 10-10 deadlock heading into the fourth and then scored again nine seconds into the final frame to put West Chester on top, 12-10. However, East Stroudsburg scored four of the final five goals in the game, – two in a player-up situation – to come away with the victory.

West Chester had its opportunities in the final minute of regulation with everything even at 13-apiece, but a free position shot from Herring went wide and a shot from Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) was saved by ESU's goalkeeper Madison McBride.

The Golden Rams turned in an excellent defensive effort against the nation's No. 1 ranked scoring offense while also putting in 13 goals on a defense that averaged only allowing six per game entering the tilt. West Chester harassed East Stroudsburg into 21 turnovers on the day – the Warriors' second highest total in a game this year. Sophomore midfielder, Caitlin Trickett (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) had three of those caused turnovers.

Herring, Edinger and Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) each scored three goals for West Chester. Audrey Miller (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) scored twice. Avery Roberts (Mantua, N.J./Clearview) and Kendall Fortune (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) each scored one.

West Chester will finish the regular season on Saturday at home against Shippensburg on Senior Day at 1 p.m. inside Vonnie Gros Field. The Golden Rams have locked up the second seed in the East for the PSAC Tournament next week.

The Quarterfinal round of the PSAC Tournament will be next Tuesday (April 28) at 4 p.m. at Vonnie Gros Field. West Chester will play the third seed out of the West in that quarterfinal round game. That opponent still has yet to be determined.
