WEST CHESTER, PA – Lila McMahon-Skates (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) registered seven points (3G, 4A) and
Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) also recorded a hat trick to lead No. 11 West Chester to a 17-9 victory over visiting Shippensburg on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
West Chester (14-3, 10-2 PSAC East) and Shippensburg (7-10, 4-8) each turn their attention to the postseason next week. The Golden Rams are the No. 2 seed out of the Eastern Division and will host a quarterfinal round game at Vonnie Gros Field on Tuesday at 4 p.m. while Shippensburg is the No. 4 seed in the East and will travel to Slippery Rock, the top seed in the West on Tuesday.
West Chester got nine goals from its starting 11 and eight goals from its bench on Senior Day. Freshman
Marissa Herring (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett Square) led all scorers with four goals. Junior
Kendall Fortune (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) contributed a hat trick. Herring and Fortune, regular starters during the season, gave way for seniors to make a start on Senior Day. All nine goals from the starters were scored by seniors.
Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) scored twice, and
Amanda Wolfe (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) scored a goal and
assisted on two others.
Defensively,
Caitlin Trickett (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) scooped up five ground balls and six draw controls on the day while also causing a turnover. West Chester forced 15 turnovers in the game and limited Shippensburg to successfully clearing just 15 of 22 attempts in the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Morgan Koons (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) tied her career high with 11 saves while only allowing five goals.
Korrigan Sweeney (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) made one save in the fourth quarter.
