Women's Tennis to Host Ursinus, Jefferson on Thursday and Friday in West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's tennis team (7-4) is preparing to return to the court on Thursday and Friday against Ursinus (5-6) and Jefferson (16-6), with both matches beginning at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out

West Chester enters play on Thursday following a 7-0 sweep of Shippensburg in PSAC East action on Tuesday afternoon at Shippensburg. West Chester did not drop a set on Tuesday night, going 3-0 in doubles matches and 6-0 in singles play to remain unbeaten in league play.

The Series

West Chester will face Ursinus for the first time since a victory in 2010 on Thursday afternoon, as the Golden Rams enter the match 1-0 all-time against the Bears.

West Chester is 4-5 against Jefferson since 2012, including losses in each of the last four meetings, with the most recent setback being a 7-0 loss in Philadelphia in October 2024. West Chester has not hosted Jefferson since 2023, and has not faced the Rams in the spring season since March 2017.

Weather Report

Thursday and Friday both look to be fine days for tennis, with Thursday's high in the upper 50s under mostly sunny skies, while Friday will approach 70 degrees.

Scouting Ursinus

The Ursinus women enter today's match against Eastern at 5-6 overall with losses in each of their last three after a 6-1 loss to Bryn Mawr halted a two-match winning streak, which had included wins over DeSales and Drew on March 18 and 20.

In singles play, Morgan Coupe is 6-5, including a 4-1 mark in fourth singles, while Mariah Mays, Bella Vassalluzzo, and Kate Rubinkam all have five wins each at 5-2, 5-5, and 5-6, respectively. In doubles play, Coupe and Rubinkam are 5-3, including a 3-0 record at the third doubles, while Vassalluzzo and Caroline Daly are 5-5, including a 2-4 record at the first doubles.

Scouting Jefferson

Jefferson enters play on Thursday against STAC in the midst of an excellent season as the CACC finalist Rams are 16-6 overall with wins in three of their last four against Coppin State, Kutztown, and Millersville, with the lone loss during that stretch coming at #24 Queens by a 6-1 final.

In singles play, Anouk Oderkek is 17-5, while Marta Vazquez and Rose Huang are 14-5 and 13-4, respectively. Alycia Veroux is 11-7 overall and 10-6 at second singles. In doubles action, Verouz and Oderkerk are 8-6 in first doubles, while the duo of Madina Omarova and Marley Alvarado is 4-1 in doubles matches across all three flights.

After the Golden Rams matches against Ursinus and Jefferson, the team will return to the court on April 14-15 and take on UDC and East Stroudsburg beginning at 2 and 3 p.m., respectively.
