PHILADELPHIA- The Philadelphia Sports Information Directors Association (PhillySIDA) released its Baseball Academic All-Area selections on Wednesday morning, and
Hunter Smith (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) added a final postseason honor to his 2026 campaign with an Academic All-Area certificate.
Smith, a Collegiate Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection as well as a First Team All-PSAC East and consensus (NCBWA, ABCA, D2CCA) Second Team All-Region honoree, enjoyed an outstanding 2026 season as a Golden Ram. In 2026, Smith batted .339 (63-for-186) with 57 RBI and 44 runs scored and posted a .462 on-base percentage along with a .591 slugging percentage. The sophomore recorded 29 extra-base hits, including 18 doubles, seven home runs, and four triples, and batted .350 in the Division II National Finals in Cary with seven hits, including a double and a triple, scoring six runs and driving in two more.
Smith was one of two Division II players to earn a spot on the Academic All-Area squad, which requires that the student-athlete be in at least their second year and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30. Pitcher Sam Cohen of Haverford earned Performer of the Year honors.
