PHILADELPHIA- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (5-5) got back in the win column on Friday night at Chestnut Hill (3-5) as the Golden Rams defeated the Griffins by a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-17) final to return to .500 on the young season.
CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) led West Chester in kills with 10, while
Maeve Gallahger (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) added nine of her own.
Julia Kwitchoff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) led West Chester in blocks with three, while the duo of
Elianna Freeman (Jersey Village, TX./Jersey Village) and
Hailey Atkins (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) tied for the team lead in aces with two each.
Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkey/Terraki) led West Chester in assists with 33, while Freeman and
Gwen Atkins (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) tied for the team lead in digs with 12 each.
West Chester hit .237 (42-14-118) in the victory, including an excellent .542 (14-1-24) in the second set as the Golden Rams picked up another 3-0 victory, their fourth of the season.
West Chester had to battle to win the first set as Chestnut Hill tied things up at 23-23 before a pair of kills by Isenberg and Atkins lifted the Golden Rams to a 25-23 victory to open the match.
West Chester got out to an early lead in the second set and never relinquished its lead en route to a 25-18 victory before opening the third set on a 5-2 run, which eventually helped the Golden Rams finish off the match with a 25-17 third-set victory.
