EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (7-8, 1-2) jumped back into PSAC East play at East Stroudsburg (9-5, 2-0) on Friday night to start a two-match road trip, which will see West Chester finish the month of September away from home. West Chester captured the opening set by a 25-23 final but dropped the next three (25-18, 25-20, 25-11) to fall to the home-standing Warriors by a 3-1 final on Friday night inside Koehler Field House.
Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) led West Chester in kills with 12, while
Maeve Gallagher (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) and
CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) finished with nine each.
Bria Stepp (Cranberry Twp, Pa./Seneca Valley) led West Chester in assists with 22, while
Elianna Freeman (Jersey Village, Tx./Jersey Village) led in digs with 11 along with an ace.
West Chester used a mid-first-set run to erase an early deficit and take a 19-15 lead over East Stroudsburg before closing out the opening set with a 25-23 victory after Richardson picked up her third kill of the opening set to give the Golden Rams an early 1-0 lead.
In the second set, East Stroudsburg took an early lead once again, holding a 7-3 lead through the first 10 points before a 5-1 run, including back-to-back kills by
Maeve Gallgher (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) and
CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick), tied the set at 8-8. The second set stayed close down the stretch before the Warriors closed with a run to win 25-18 and even the match at 1-1.
East Stroudsburg took an early lead in both the third and fourth sets and used that advantage to win 25-20 and 25-11, taking the match 3-1 over the visiting Golden Rams.
Kelly Crites closed out the 3-1 victory for ESU with her 16th kill of the match, tying for the match-high with Jadyn Orava, who had stretched the lead to 23-11 with her 16
th kill of the evening moments earlier.
West Chester hit .127 (43-26-134) in the setback despite hitting .270 (12-2-37) in the opening set.
East Stroudsburg hit .385 (54-17-130) in the win, including a .429 (10-1-22) effort in the fourth set to close out the match.
