West Chester Football is Ready for the 2026 Season

WEST CHESTER, PA – A lot of excitement is buzzing around this year's gridiron squad as the West Chester Golden Rams prepare to lift the lid on the 2026 campaign on the road Saturday night at Lincoln University. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
 
Changes are a plenty with this edition of the Purple & Gold. From the coaching staff right down to the players themselves, there are a lot of new faces for which the fanbase to become accustomed.
 
West Chester brought back less than half of its roster from 2025 and introduced seven new coaches to its staff in the offseason. Things will look a little different this fall, and things have already felt different in preseason camp.
 
"As a group, we are more connected," third-year mentor Duke Greco said. "Leaving the spring, I felt like we were all pulling in the same direction. The players are resilient. The guys are just going about their work. But, there is a sense of urgency with them this year.
 
The most immediate challenge lies with the offensive line. Injuries have seeped into this group in each of Greco's first two campaigns on the sidelines, and that has been a difficult barrier for his team to hurdle. A healthy offensive line would make a ton of difference for Greco and his charges.
 
Two returning starters along that line will help anchor the unit. Those changes we talked about earlier though, well this is really where you will notice it most. Three red-shirt juniors and one sophomore were brought in to bolster that line while two returning Golden Rams should see more playing time this season. West Chester ranked ninth in the PSAC in rushing offense (144 rushing yards per game) and managed just 15 rushing touchdowns last year. Those numbers better increase if the purple & gold are to be successful. That is task ahead of first-year offensive line coach and run-game coordinator, Greg Fedick. Like many of Greco's assistants, he came over from Delaware Valley where he worked with Duke for many years. He is familiar with Greco's style and with what he wants to do.
 
Probably the second major concern facing Greco and his new staff is settling on a quarterback who can lead the offense, protect the football and become somebody that Greco can mold a cohesive unit around. Again, a pair of transfers will battle the only returning QB with game experience for the No. 1 job. Which one of these three who can not only elevate their play, but the play of others around them, will eventually win out. Tutoring them along the way is another new coach to the Golden Rams. Mike Isgro is the team's pass game coordinator, wide receivers coach and special teams coach. He too arrived from Delaware Valley over the winter to join up with Greco once again.
 
Coach Greco prefers to run the ball, and he called this stable of running backs the deepest position on the football field entering the season. Depending on how the quarterback position plays out, West Chester may rely on its talented running backs to move the sticks.
 
The Golden Rams addressed its biggest weakness from two years ago by shoring up the middle of the defensive line and becoming tougher against the run. A unit that ranked last in the league against the run in 2024, moved up four spots to 11th in 2025. Another big jump like that is needed this fall as well. Improved edge rushers and corners who can also play the run help make that jump possible. They also unlock a pass rush that can be dangerous. Experience at all three levels gives West Chester hope in that area. Five starters return from the 2025 squad and three more have significant playing time under their belts. This defensive unit showcases individuals who are electric and can play many positions. The Golden Rams can change formations without changing personnel. That is a luxury Coach Greco and his defensive coordinator, Nick Brady, have lacked.
 
The defensive backs may be new names and faces, except for free safety, Jamir Reyes, but Coach Greco and the coaches tutoring the DBs are very excited about this group. West Chester is very deep at this position as well and they have been producing turnovers in every scrimmage through camp.
 
The PSAC East always presents its plethora of unique challenges. However, Greco feels that he is building a contender in the East. Three QBs and three RBs are all battling for playing time. How that all plays out will have a significant effect on the Golden Rams' fortunes.
