WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Katelin Peterson scored four goals for Richmond in a 5-1 win over host West Chester Sunday afternoon in an Atlantic 10 field hockey matchup.
With the loss, West Chester (6-10, 1-4 Atlantic 10) was officially eliminated from postseason consideration in the conference. Richmond (8-9, 4-1 Atlantic 10) continues its torrid pace, upping the Spiders’ win streak to five straight.
Richmond scored three times in a little over five minutes during its devastating spurt in the first half. Dani Pycroft started the spree at 25:18 with Peterson netting the next two at 26:41 and 30:55. Peterson added another before halftime at 33:32 that gave the Spiders a 4-0 lead at the break.
Alex Malatesta picked up assists on Pycroft’s goal and Peterson goal right before halftime.
Peterson scored just under two minutes into the second half to complete her four-goal game and give the visitors a 5-0 advantage.
West Chester’s Brittany Cislak scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season shortly thereafter for the Rams’ only tally of the day.
Joelle Zarefoss went the distance in the cage and made four saves. Becca Weaver started and played the first half for Richmond without being tested. Jacki Raithel played the second half and made one save.
West Chester travels to Lafayette on Wednesday for its final road game of the year. The Golden Rams return home next Saturday for Senior Day against LaSalle at Vonnie Gros Field in the season finale.
