Game Notes
WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University renews acquaintances with its “big brother” down I-95 when the Golden Rams make the one-hour trek south to Newark, Del., for its annual clash with Division I FCS power University of Delaware Saturday at 6 p.m.
West Chester is coming off a soaking wet 37-6 drubbing of PSAC foe Lock Haven last Saturday morning in a game that was moved to 11 a.m. to try to avoid the brunt of the weather front that hit Southeastern PA as a result of Hurricane Hanna traveling up the East Coast of the United States.
The Golden Rams beat the rain and sent a message to the visiting Bald Eagles with two touchdowns in the game’s first five minutes to take a 14-0 lead and never look back. West Chester rang up 377 yards of total offense in the first half, before the skies opened up in the second half and grounded both offenses to a halt. Hurricane Hanna was the only thing that could stop the Rams and All-America wide receiver Mike Washington. The Harlon Hill hopeful caught five passes for 155 yards and two TDs all in the first half.
West Chester head coach and University of Delaware alumn, Bill Zwaan, picked up his 100th career win in the process. The former Blue Hens quarterback is 100-33 entering this weekend’s tilt against his alma mater.
The Golden Rams will try to end a personal 14-game losing streak to Delaware Saturday. West Chester has not beaten the Blue Hens since 1992. Delaware is looking to match its longest winning streak in the series history at 15 straight with a win Saturday night.
