No. 23 West Chester Entertains Lock Haven In Season Opener Saturday

Game Time Moved to 11 AM

Game Notes

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -
No. 23 West Chester University battles PSAC West foe Lock Haven Saturday at Farrell Stadium in the Golden Rams' home opener of the 2008 campaign. Game time has been moved to 11 a.m. due to the inclement weather expected from Hurricane Hanna.

Both West Chester University and Lock Haven enter Saturday’s game trying to rebound from opening day losses last weekend. The Golden Rams fell 44-32 to No. 5 California (Pa.) while the Bald Eagles fell to Glenville St. 30-0. Today’s tilt marks the first time that these two PSAC schools will collide since 1991. In fact, West Chester and Lock Haven have met just twice since playing for PSAC Championship at the end of the 1960 campaign. The Golden Rams hold a 17-6-1 advantage in the all-time series.

West Chester has recorded seven shutouts in the all-time series with Lock Haven. The Golden Rams also racked up 74 points in a victory over the Eagles in 1958. That marked the second-highest single-game point total in West Chester history.

West Chester is ranked 23rd in the AFCA Coaches’ Poll this week, marking the 17th straight week in which the Rams have been ranked nationally dating back to 2006. The Rams were one of 15 schools to appear in the national polls each of the 14 weeks a year ago.

Lock Haven won an overtime game against Clarion on the final week of the season a year ago for its only triumph in 2007. Fourth-year head coach John Klacik has been tasked with trying to rebuild his alma mater into a contender once again.

Rams head coach Bill Zwaan will go for win No. 100 for the third time this Saturday.
