West Chester Heads to Edinboro for Crossover Tilt Saturday Afternoon

EDINBORO, PA – West Chester's football squad hits the road for the second time in three weeks when the Golden Rams head to Western Pennsylvania to take on Edinboro University on Saturday for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
 
Tickets to the football game at Sox Harrison Stadium are $12 for adults and $6 for students, veterans and senior citizens (62+). Children under 5 are free. You can purchase tickets online ahead of time. Or, tickets can be purchased using credit cards at the gates.
 
Edinboro does have a VIP/Tailgate lot. It is $5 a spot for cars (you can also purchase a second spot to tailgate in) and $10 for RVs. That lot is located directly behind the visiting bleachers off of Perry Lane and that is a cash only transaction. There is free parking in the lot that is on Scotland Road directly across from McComb Fieldhouse.
 
West Chester and Edinboro have only met 12 times in their football history, and not since Sept. 18, 2021, in West Chester. The Golden Rams have not made the trek to Edinboro, Pa., since 2016 when the Purple & Gold dropped a thrilling 54-51 contest in double overtime. In that game, West Chester quarterback, Andrew Derr, set single-game school records for completions (39), pass attempts (70) and passing yards (559) while tossing four touchdowns. The Golden Rams are 3-2 in the five games played against the Fighting Scots in Western Pa.
 
Third-year head coach Duke Greco will make his first trip the western-most part of the state. At 385 miles, it will be the longest trip West Chester has made so far in Greco's two-plus seasons on the sideline. Ironically, the previous long trip (327 miles to Bentley University) traversed four different states, but still did not cover the same distance. The Golden Rams will return to Western Pa., for its final game of the regular season against Gannon. That trip will be the second-longest in Greco's tenure – coming in at 349 miles – and again never leaving the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
 
The Golden Rams (1-1) are coming off a near upset of nationally ranked Indiana (Pa.) last Saturday night at home, eventually dropping a 27-21 decision in double OT. West Chester scored a touchdown on defense and special teams to come from behind and force the overtime sessions. Defensive tackle, Jack Fry (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll), tipped a pass at IUP's 5-yard line and then caught the tip and dove over the goal line for one score. Bryan Anderson (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) then returned a blocked field goal attempt 66 yards to tie the game at 14-all. For that effort, plus recording five tackles on the night, Anderson was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Special Teams Player of the Week.
 
West Chester's defense is holding its opponents to under 100 yards rushing per game and under 200 yards passing per contest so far this fall. The Golden Rams' stop unit ranks sixth in the PSAC in passing defense and seventh in rushing defense, while Edinboro is second in the league against the pass and ninth against the run.
 
Mikhail Johnson (Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner-Pendergrast) ranks seventh in the league in rushing with 174 yards rushing after two games. His 86.5 rushing yards per game is third in the PSAC while his 6.4 yards per carry ranks eighth.
 
Edinboro enters the contest undefeated at 2-0 with wins over Ohio Dominican (38-36  3OT) and Bloomsburg (9-6). It has been a tale of two offenses and defenses for the Fighting Scots. They scored 38 points in one game and nine points in the next while allowing 36 points in one game and only six in the next.
 
The Scots have had the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week in each of the first two weeks of the season. Safety Ty Reali was the defensive player of the week with 12 tackles and an interception in the opener. His INT set up Edinboro for their game-tying 95-yard drive in the fourth quarter that sent the game into OT. Defensive lineman, Montrice Webster, made seven tackles, three for a loss, and forced a fumble in Edinboro's win at Bloomsburg last week.
