SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Dana Weems scored 25 points, Janelle Garber added 22 and Allison Hostetter netted 19 as visiting West Chester put an end to its three-game losing streak with an 89-74 victory over host Slippery Rock in a non-league PSAC crossover women’s basketball game inside Morrow Field House Sunday afternoon.
West Chester (8-5) earned its first road win of the season and first victory away from Hollinger Field House since taking both games at the Millersville Tip-Off Tournament in November in a couple of neutral site contests. Slippery Rock (5-8) dropped its second straight game of the weekend and has now lost three of its last four.
Hostetter and Garber each had 12 points in a first half that saw West Chester carry a 16-point advantage into halftime (45-29). The Golden Rams outscored The Rock 18-6 over a span of five minutes late in the first half that pushed the visitor’s lead from single digits to 21 points. Hostetter fueled the surge with seven of her 12 before the break.
West Chester hed a 20-points advantage (64-44) at the 10:41 mark when Slippery Rock made its final run at the Golden Rams. The Rock went on a 26-13 spurt that drew the hosts within seven (77-70) with three minutes to go.
However, the Rams ended the tilt on a 12-4 run, hitting five layups and two foul shots to put The Rock away.
West Chester shot 54.1 percent from the field for the game, including a 56.7 percent effort in the second half. The 74 points allowed by the Golden Rams were the most in a win all season.
Julie Molloy scored a season-high 21 points for Slippery Rock. Sasha Sales added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Nikki Presto also scored 14 for the hosts.
West Chester will be back home at Hollinger Field House on Wednesday evening when it opens the PSAC East slate against visiting Millersville at 6 p.m.
