SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Three-time defending PSAC champion West Chester University picked up two wins Saturday afternoon, topping host Shippensburg, 130-69, while also beating Kutztown, 117-82, in dual women’s swimming meets.
West Chester won eight events with Kristen Montello taking first place in both the 100-yard freestyle and 1000 free. Montello touched the wall in 54.11 seconds in the 100 free and 10 minutes, 52.67 seconds in the 1000 free.
Newcomer Dani Scott was part of the first-place 200 medley relay squad that clocked a 1:49.81 while also winning the 100 backstroke in 1:00.67 and placing runner-up in the 200 Individual Medley (2:14.73).
West Chester claimed the top three spots in the 100 butterfly with Erin Fischer winning the event in 58.66. Leah Varvaro was second (1:01.35) and Kristen McCabe third (1:02.27). Fischer was also part of that 200 medley relay winning team.
Danielle Ierley won the 500 free in 5:18.10 and placed second in the 1000 free (10:53.05) behind teammate Montello. Megan Bauer won the 200 free, touching out in 1:59.35. Jackie Borkowski was the other winner in the 50 free with a time of 24.61.
West Chester hosts Division I foe Lehigh on Oct. 24 at the Graham Natatorium in its home opener.
