West Chester Women Clinch Playoff Spot With Win Over Mansfield, 65-38

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Dana Weems registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as host West Chester easily defeated visiting Mansfield, 65-38, Saturday afternoon in a PSAC East women’s basketball contest inside Hollinger Field House. With the win, the Golden Rams Clinched a spot in the PSAC postseason tournament and remained tied for first place with Millersville, who was a winner on Saturday.

West Chester (17-8, 9-3 PSAC East) held Mansfield (7-18, 3-9) to just 23.3 percent shooting from the field in the tilt and forced 28 turnovers by the Mountaineers. Mansfield scored just 18 points in the second half after falling behind 36-20 at halftime.

Allison Hostetter led the Golden Rams with 13 points. Megan Stewart added 10 points, six assists and six steals. Dominique Adams scored eight points and recorded five steals.

West Chester busted out to a 22-4 lead in the game’s first 12 minutes as the Rams shot a scorching 53.8 percent from the field in the first half.

Nicole Pender and Courtney Brooks each scored seven points to lead Mansfield’s effort Saturday.

West Chester welcomes Shippensburg to Hollinger Field House on Wednesday evening for a 6 p.m. tip-off in another crucial PSAC East showdown. The Golden Rams enter the final week of the regular-season tied for first, but holding the tie-breaker over Millersville with whom they are tied at the moment.

The top seed in the Eastern Division will host a quarterfinal round game on Tuesday, March 3 and would then host the PSAC Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinals and finals that weekend, if the top seed won its quarterfinal game.
