West Chester (6-1) saw its 26-match winning streak come to a halt while Mercyhurst (7-0) remains undefeated on the season.
Chrissy Stokes scored her second tally of the game with 11:42 left. But, that was the last time the Golden Rams would dent the Lakers' twine while the hosts went on a 4-0 run over the next six minutes to turn West Chester's 9-7 lead into an 11-9 advantage for Mercyhurst.
West Chester came out firing, opening up a 5-0 lead in the game's first 11 minutes. However, Mercyhurst settled down and controlled much of the rest of the first half, crawling back to within one (5-4) by halftime.
Two straight goals from Breanna Haggerty out of the locker room put Mercyhurst on top for the first time in the game, 6-5. That pair of goals ended a 6-0 run from the Lakers to erase the early deficit. Kimberly Masterton fueled that six-goal run with four unassisted tallies to close out the first half.
Stokes, Courtney Whiting and Jackie Baker then all scored in succession to put the top-ranked Rams on top once again, 8-6. Kristie Jennings netted her second of the game to pull the hosts to within one at the 12:06 mark. Stokes then tallied 24 seconds later, making it a 9-7 game.
Whiting, Baker and Gina DiDomenicis each posted three points, scoring a pair of goals in the process. Stokes scored two goals, and Nicole Haines potted the Rams' other goal on the afternoon.
Masterton finished with four goals and one assist while Haggerty registered a hat trick for Mercyhurst.
