HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Top-ranked and defending national champion West Chester University downed Slippery Rock, 20-4, Wednesday afternoon in a women's lacrosse match in Hilton Head, S.C.
Courtney Whiting scored four goals and posted two assists to lead the Golden Rams offensively. Nicole Haines registered a hat trick and two assists for a five-point effort while Jackie Baker scored twice and assisted on two others.
The entire roster saw action in the season-opener in which West Chester held a 15-0 advantage at halftime. Senior Mary Beth Green started in goal and played 50 minutes before giving way to classmate Brittany Barnes, who allowed one of the four Slippery Rock goals.
The Golden Rams return north and travel to Shippensburg on Tuesday for a PSAC Eastern Division clash with the Raiders.
