No. 5 West Chester Outguns Kutztown, 25-7

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Jackie Baker and Chrissy Stokes each scored four goals as fifth-ranked West Chester put an abrupt end to its two-game losing streak with a 25-7 victory over visiting Kutztown on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

West Chester (7-2, 5-0 PSAC East) remained unbeaten in league play, outgunning short-handed Kutztown (1-8, 0-5). The Golden Rams raced out to a 4-0 lead in the early going and increased that margin to 16-3 by halftime.

Baker registered a natural hat trick, scoring the final three goals of the half for the Golden Rams. She added her fourth and final tally 49 seconds into the second. Stokes finished the day with six points, adding two assists to her four goals. Courtney Whiting also had a hat trick for West Chester.

Jen Forney scooped five ground balls, posted three draw controls and caused four turnovers defensively for the Golden Rams.

Claire Grimwood, Devon Lotkowski and Shannon Hayes all scored twice for West Chester as well.

Mary Beth Green (7-2) recorded five saves. Brittany Barnes played the final 12 minutes and registered one save off a free-position opportunity for Kutztown.

Rachel Mehaffey scored a game-high five goals for the Bears. Leeann Pica and Ally Brehm each added a tally for the visitors. Erin Myers went the distance, making 13 saves.

West Chester returns to Vonnie Gros Field on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest against Shippensburg. It will be “Lax 4 Life” game at West Chester as the Golden Rams’ lacrosse squad tries to raise money for the Allysons Fund to benefit adolescent suicide prevention.
