WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Gabrielle Stitz posted six points, and Chrissy Stokes scored four goals to lead fifth-ranked West Chester University to a 20-5 victory over visiting East Stroudsburg in a PSAC Eastern Division women’s lacrosse match at Vonnie Gros Field on Monday afternoon.
West Chester (10-2, 8-0) tightened its grip on first place in the league standings and a spot in the PSAC postseason tournament with the win over East Stroudsburg (6-8, 4-4).
The Golden Rams scored 13 unanswered goals in the first half to run away from the Warriors, who were tied at 1-apiece for the first six minutes. However, Stitz had a hand in five of West Chester’s next six goals over a four-minute span that sparked the decisive run. Stitz played a role in six of the Rams’ first seven tallies overall in the contest.
Stitz finished with three goals and three assists in the first half before resting the entire second session. Stokes posted four goals and added one assist. Shannon Hayes, making her first career start, scored once and registered four assists. Nicole Haines added two goals and two more assists as well.
Jenny Ingram and Jackie Hoover each notched a pair of goals as well for the Golden Rams, who led 16-2 at halftime.
Mary Beth Green (10-2) made 11 saves in the win. Kirstin Mayberry (6-8) was credited with 10 stops for East Stroudsburg.
Kimberlee Hachen caused four turnovers, grabbed two ground balls and secured two draw controls for West Chester, which held a decided 20-7 advantage in draw controls for the game.
West Chester returns to action on Thursday when the Golden Rams host Millersville at Vonnie Gros Field at 4 p.m.
