KUTZTOWN, Pa. - West Chester University swept a PSAC East baseball doubleheader from host Kutztown University Sunday, taking over sole possession of first place in the conference standings as a result.

West Chester (26-9, 14-2 PSAC East) took three out of four games from Kutztown (23-8, 9-3) in the weekend series between nationally ranked rivals fighting for the top spot in the Eastern Division.

Blair Dameron hit an RBI groundout in the top of the seventh inning to tie game one at 4-4 and send the tilt into extra innings. Then, Charlie Kelly homered to lead off the eighth, and Matt Cotellese later singled in an insurance run to give the Golden Rams a 6-4 advantage.

Kutztown scored one in the bottom of the eighth, but could not extend the game by getting the equalizer.

Eric Carmichael (3-0) picked up the win in relief, pitching the seventh and eighth. He allowed one unearned run on two hits. David Slusser started and lasted six innings, yielding four runs on seven hits, walking four and striking out four.

Kutztown ace Darin Gorski lasted six innings as well, surrendering two earned runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts, before exiting with a 4-3 lead. Mike Bucklin (2-1) blew the save in relief and was collared with the loss for the Bears.

Kelly finished 4-for-4 with three RBI. He added RBI singles in the second and fourth to his home run in the eighth. Cotellese was 3-for-5 with a RBI.

In the nightcap, Brett Moyer (6-1) pitched a complete-game three-hitter and allowed just one run. He walked four and struck out three.

West Chester scored in every inning except the second and seventh, including a two-run fourth and three-run sixth.

Adam Maini (4-1) was the hard-luck loser for Kutztown in the second game. He pitched five innings and yielded just two earned runs on seven hits, but was the victim of seven errors behind him in the field that opened the door for the Golden Rams.

Cotellese went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in the second game while Blair Dameron was 4-for-5 with three runs. Bob Stumpo collected a pair of hits as well.
