LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – West Chester University hit six home runs and pitchers Joe Opalka and Carmen Daddario combined on a one-hit shutout to lead No. 14 West Chester to a 17-0 win over host Lincoln University Wednesday afternoon in a non-league baseball game.
The Golden Rams (27-9) scored twice in the second on Kyle Orensky’s team-leading eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot that scored Blair Dameron, who had walked prior to Orensky’s at bat. West Chester then put the game out of reach with a 10-run third that opened a 12-0 lead.
The Rams sent 13 men to the plate in the third, scoring 10 runs on seven hits. Matt Cotellese doubled twice in the frame, Dameron hit a two-run homer and Matt Baer smashed a three-run shot.
Opalka (3-0) went four innings, picking up the win when the game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule. He allowed one hit, walked two and struck out six. Daddario (1) came on and pitched three innings of hitless relief for the save. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Nick Spisak finished 2-for-3 with his third home run of the year and three RBI. Baer and Sam Phillips also knocked in three runs. Baer smacked his second homer of the season during that 10-run third while Phillips hit his first college home run in the top of the sixth.
Kevin McGrath, Cotellese and Baer all collected a pair of hits in the win.
West Chester returns to Serpico Stadium on Thursday afternoon for another non-league tilt with Wilmington (Del.) University at 3:30 p.m.
