No. 20 West Chester Opens Gridiron Season Thursday Night

Week 1 Game Notes - Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - After 27 grueling practices and two hard-hitting srimmages, West Chester University lifts the lid on its 88th season of intercollegiate varsity football Thursday night against Lock Haven University under the lights at Hubert Jack Stadium.

West Chester, ranked 20th in both the AFCA preseason coaches' poll and D2Football.com preseason media poll, are eager to get out on the field and hit somebody else for a change. The Golden Rams carry an 18-6-1 advantage over the Bald Eagles in the all-time series heading into Thursday's showdown. It is just the fourth time in the last 49 years that the two PSAC schools have met.

Lock Haven is coming off a disappointing 0-11 campaign in 2008. However, the Eagles did put up a season-high 28 points in their final game of the year as fifth-year head coach John Klacik finished installing his new spread offense. West Chester, on the other hand, is coming off two straight Eastern Division titles and has reached the NCAA II playoffs in each of the past five seasons under seventh-year head coach Bill Zwaan.

All the action of West Chester's 2009 football season opener can be heard live on 91.7 WCUR-FM in the borough, or world wide over the internet on Red Zone Media at www.redzonemedia.com. L.J. Harrell and Brendan Lee will bring you all the action of the Golden Rams' opener.
