WEST CHESTER, Pa. – With four newcomers in the lineup, West Chester University’s women’s tennis team stormed past visiting Bryn Mawr, 7-2, Tuesday afternoon in a non-league match in the Golden Rams’ opener.
Luisiana Souto defeated Anna Perocchi, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles in her first college match for the Rams while Brittany Counts downed Elizabeth Wiseman, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles in her first match. Alison Fetters bettered Melanie Shaffer, 6-3, 6-1, in her first match as a Golden Ram.
The only newcomer to the Rams rotation that suffered a setback was Stephanie Ritchey at No. 4 singles. She fell, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (4).
Perocchi and Wiseman teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat Souto and Ritchey, 8-2 for Bryn Mawr’s only other point.
Counts and Fetter were 8-3 winners at No. 2 doubles while Jessica Trahey and Allie Melhem were 8-4 victors at No. 3 doubles.
West Chester’s women’s team will be back in action Wednesday afternoon when they host Glouchester Community College at 3:30 p.m.
