West Chester Women Pick Up Rare Road Win At USP, 71-63

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
– Megan Stewart led five West Chester players in double figures with 19 points as the visiting Golden Rams defeated host University of the Sciences, 71-63, inside Morgan Arena Tuesday evening.

West Chester (2-0) hit on 6 of 8 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half to open up a 35-30 advantage over USP (1-1) by the break. For the game, the Golden Rams were 8-for-16 from downtown. With the win, West Chester ended a personal four-game losing streak inside Morgan Arena, dating back to the 2000-01 campaign.

Allison Hostetter added 13 points and five assists, and Jillian Keefer posted 12 points to aid the Golden Rams’ effort. Stewart registered five steals and dished out six assists as well. She was 4-for-5 from 3-point range and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Hostetter grabbed six rebounds and Stewart grabbed five boards.

A 3-ball from Stewart at the 16:54 mark of the second half gave West Chester its largest lead of the game at 44-35. However, the Devils embarked on a 12-1 run over the next five minutes to take a 47-46 lead midway through the second.

USP would knot things up one more time at 52-apiece with just over six minutes remaining. However, a layup from Ambreeline Ortman one minute later gave back the lead to the Golden Rams for good. West Chester outscored USP by a 19-11 margin the rest of the way to secure its second win of the season.

Ortman and Alex Lennon each contributed 10 points for the Golden Rams.

West Chester returns home to Hollinger Field House one week from tonight when Philadelphia University visits for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
