WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Sophomore Alex Lennon posted 19 points and a career-high 18 rebounds to lead West Chester University to a 64-56 victory over visiting Bowie State University in the final game of the 25th Annual Carol Eckman Classic women's basketball tournament inside Hollinger Field House Sunday afternoon.
West Chester (7-1) improved its winning streak to six games with the win over Bowie State (2-3) in a battle of schools which were each listed among others receiving votes in last week's Division II coach's poll. The Golden Rams won both of its contests in the Carol Eckman Classic, running its winning streak to nine games, dating back to 2006. WCU is now 32-18 overall in the history of the tournament named after former Golden Rams head coach, who is widely considered one of the most influencial figures in the development of college women's basketball.
Millersville topped Lincoln in the other game Sunday afternoon, 68-47.
Lennon came up just one point and two rebounds shy of becoming the second player in West Chester women's basketball history to record 20 points and 20 rebounds in a single contest. Linda Vidovich is currently the only Golden Rams player to accomplish that feat back in 1985.
Jillian Keefer poured in 15 points in the second half, helping the Golden Rams hold off the charging Bulldogs late rally. Megan Stewart contributed 11 points and seven assists and four steals to the cause.
Chanita Jordan scored 15 points to lead Bowie State in scoring. Brittney Jackson notched 14 points and registered six steals.
West Chester is off until the new year when the Golden Rams travel out west to take on Clarion Jan. 3 and Gannon Jan. 4.
