WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Alyssa Gallen and Nicole Pyle each registered a hat trick to lead sixth-ranked West Chester University to an 18-8 victory over visiting Shippensburg in a PSAC East women's lacrosse match on a rain-soaked Monday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
In a game that was delayed approximately 30 minutes at the beginning due to lightning in the area, West Chester (4-0, 2-0 PSAC East) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Shippensburg (2-2, 1-1) answered with a pair of goals, but could not get any closer.
Gallen's hat trick came a little over a 10-minute span at the end of the first half and beginning of the second half. She also added an assist for a four-point afternoon. Gallen was one of four Golden Rams to post four points in the win.
Pyle added an assist to her three goals. Shannon Hayes and Erin Oczkowski each scored two goals and picked up two assists as well.
Shippensburg's goalkeeper Meghan Kearney played very well in goal, stopping 19 shots for the Raiders.
When Shippensburg narrowed the margin to 5-3 on a free position goal by Lena Stoneburner at the 10:04 mark, West Chester went on a 7-0 run, sparked by a pair of goals from Oczkowski one minute apart. The Golden Rams would add three more tallies before halftime to take a 10-3 advantage at the break. Oczkowksi also assisted on one of those five goals during the run.
Gallen opened the second half with a goal 1:23 into the frame and then assisted on another marker one minute later that pushed the advantage to 12-3.
West Chester travels to Bloomsburg for another PSAC contest on Thursday at 4 p.m.
