WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Kyle Orensky went 3-for-3 with his ninth home run of the season and Charlie Kelly hit his seventh of the year as host West Chester toppled visiting Widener, 10-6, in a non-league inter-divisional baseball game at Serpico Stadium on Wednesday.
West Chester (29-9) scored five runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to erase a 5-4 deficit and take control of the game from Widener (11-8). From there, Craig Carroll (3-0) cruised the rest of the way in relief of starter Jared Lehman to pick up the win.
Carroll surrendered one run on six hits in 4.2 innings of work. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. Lehman started and lasted 4.1 innings. He did not run into trouble until the fifth inning.
The Golden Rams’ five-run fifth answered a four-spot posted by the Pride in their half of the inning. The first four batters in the frame all reached and eventually scored. Brandon Wolfe walked with the bases loaded for force home the first run. Josh Heyne later delivered a bases-clearing double with two outs, followed by a run-scoring double from Kevin McGrath.
Orensky reached base safely in all four trips to the plate, hitting a leadoff home run in the bottom of the third. Two outs later, Kelly poked one over the right field fence that gave West Chester a 4-1 lead after three.
