WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Gabby Kozlowski scored five minutes into the second overtime to give visiting Columbia University a 3-2 victory over host West Chester in the second game of the Vonnie Gros Classic on a brisk Friday evening.
West Chester (3-1) suffered its first setback of the year while Columbia (3-0) improved its season-opening win streak to three games. Top-ranked North Carolina defeated Villanova, 7-1, in the first game on Friday night.
The Golden Rams score a pair of unanswered goals to erase an early 1-0 deficit. However, the Lions retaliated three minutes after West Chester had gone up by one to even things late in the second half.
Kate Zunski tipped in a blast from the top of the circle on a penalty corner in the 17th minute to tie things up for the hosts heading into the overtime. Leah Angstadt than buried a pass from Alisha Moran in the back of the cage in the 52nd minute to put West Chester on top, 2-1.
However, Carson Christus knotted things up for Columbia three minutes later, and that is the way things stood until the second OT.
Gabby Panasiewicz suffered the loss in goal for West Chester. She made two saves in 55 minutes of work, coming on in the second half and going the rest of the way. Kristin Arnold made three saves in the first half and yielded one goal.
Columbia’s Christie O’Hara picked up the win without making a save.
West Chester hosts No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday at noon in the third game of the fifth annual Vonnie Gros Classic. Columbia will take on Villanova at 2:30 p.m.
