MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Host Millersville University put five players in double figures afs the Marauders defeated visiting West Chester University, 81-59, in a PSAC East women’s basketball showdown inside Pucillo Gym Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (12-4, 3-1 PSAC East) saw its four-game win streak come to a halt while Millersville (13-3, 3-1) climbed into a tie for first place with the Golden Rams in the league standings as a result of the win.

Millersville neutralized West Chester’s backcourt tandem of Allison Hostetter and Megan Stewart while shooting 54.5 percent (6 of 11) from beyond the 3-point arc and harassing the Golden Rams into just 18.2 percent (6 of 33) from the floor in the first half.

The Marauders led by 15 at halftime (36-21) despite turning the ball over 15 times as compared to the Rams’ eight turnovers. However, WCU’s outside shooting woes prohibited the Rams from taking advantage of Millersville’s miscues.

Millersville outrebounded West Chester, 52-37, with Aurielle Mosley grabbing a game-high 17 boards to go along with her 12 points. Mashira Newman led all scorers in the contest with 19 points.

West Chester’s Shamyra Hammond scored a season-best 10 points in the loss. It marked just the second time in her career that the junior guard has reached double figures in points in a game. Paige Elliott posted a career-high nine points, along with Dominique Adams. Alex Lennon blocked three shots in the loss.

Bloomsburg and Shippensburg each won their league tilts on Saturday, creating a four-way tie atop the Eastern Division standings. West Chester will travel to Shippensburg on Wednesday evening for another key match.
