SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Anna McGlade scored two trys and posted three conversions to lead visiting West Chester to a 56-3 victory over host Shippensburg in a non-league women's rugby contest Sunday afternoon.
West Chester remains unbeaten on the year at 4-0 with the win over Division II power Shippensburg. McGlade got things rolling for the Golden Rams in the 21st minute when her try broke a scoreless tie to that point in the game. Her conversion left the score at 7-0 WCU.
The Rams led 19-0 at halftime, but really found their stride in the second half and pulled away from a determined Raiders squad. Head coach Tony DeRemer credits the effort from his defense, especially in the second half, with the lopsided win.
"Our defense played particularly well," DeRemer noted. "We were able to create a number of turnovers as a result of our hard rucks on their ballcarriers. I think that was difference."
Cheryl Johnson contributed a pair of trys for the Golden Rams as well.
West Chester will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 29 at home when they welcome national power Penn State to the rugby pitch on South Campus. Start time is 11 a.m. for that EPRU matchup.
